Thai to English
Standard Thai, also known as Central Thai or Siamese, is the official language of Thailand, spoken by about 72 million people including speakers of Bangkok Thai (although the latter is sometimes considered as a separate dialect). Khorat Thai is spoken by about 500,000 in Nakhon Ratchasima; it occupies a linguistic position somewhere between Central Thai and the Isan on a dialect continuum, and may be considered a variant or dialect of either. A majority of the people in the Isan region of Thailand speak a dialect of the Lao language, which has influenced the Central Thai dialect.
Many of these languages are spoken by larger numbers outside of Thailand. Most speakers of dialects and minority languages speak Central Thai as well, since it is the language used in schools and universities all across the kingdom.
The Thai alphabet has a combination of 24+ vowels, 44 consonants, tone marks and its own numerals, though Thais make use of Hindu-Arabic numerals like those in English. There are no capital letters.

Things to Consider
There are a wide range cultural aspects in the Thai speaking world that can vary quite significantly depending on the region. For example, many colors, symbols, and region-specific slang can have unintended implications. It is vital that text be adapted accordingly.
In the translation industry we use the term ‘Transcreation’ to refer to this adaptation of a text to suit the cultural understanding of a specific target audience.
It can be a challenging task for a business to expand into the Thai market. It’s vitally important that marketing and advertising messages are correctly adapted to this audience, while not compromising the original purpose, style, tone, and context of the message. An awareness of local cultural nuances and adapting your text accordingly is why our Thai translators only translate into their native tongue.
