Philanthropy

Giving back to the community and making an impact in the world is an important part of what Language Marketplace is about.

Every year we are proud to donate a percentage of our fiscal quarter’s net revenue to a charity of our choosing.

Since 2018, we have been a major sponsor of Peaks for Change Foundation, and continued to support their 7 Summits for Mental Health incentive that focused on helping end the stigma surrounding mental health. Through this support we helped CAMH (Center for Addiction and Mental Health) with their new Drop-in Bridging Clinic that houses a unique 24/7 mental health emergency department.

If you would like to join us in supporting Peaks for Change, please click the logo to visit their website.

In 2017, we provided assistance to members of the Forest Brook Community Church as they took part on a humanitarian mission to Guatemala for the fifth year in a row.

Above and Beyond Program

In 2017, we wanted to go “Above and Beyond”, and support causes nominated by our staff. Every month for 2017 our staff generously decided to donate their monthly winnings to a charity of their choice. Several of our staff received this Peer Star Award recognition multiple times.

The impact you will have on a child’s life will be felt FOREVER. That’s an incredibly powerful and rare thing.”

Giving Back

In 2016, Language Marketplace provided a monetary donation to a humanitarian group to aid a school building mission in Guatemala (Ministries of Forest Brook Community Church).

Also in 2016, our President and many of the staff at the Canadian head office ran the Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon on October 16, 2016, where they raised funds for ALS. Charles Valliere, an in-house French translator at Language Marketplace had been diagnosed with ALS in 2011. Charles was at the finish line in 2014, but unfortunately was only present in spirit at the marathon.

To learn more about ALS or if you would like to directly donate to ALS Canada, please visit:

Food for Life received support from our Canadian head office, helping families in need receive a Christmas dinner. Our donation provided almost 200 turkeys!

The Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon was once again supported in 2015. Our President, Ema Dantas ran in support of ALS Canada.

On September 1, 2015, Language Marketplace sponsored Village Church, from Surrey, BC, for their first Golf Tournament, which was in Benefit of the Dalit Freedom Network. By sponsoring the Village Church Golf Tournament, we supported the building of a school in a Dalit Community.

Over the years, we have been able to support many other charitable organizations:

  • June 22, 2015 – participated and was a hole sponsor in the Swing Fore Hope 2015, annual Golf Tournament, in support of Hope Place Centres, in Ontario. Hope Place Center helps people find the support to achieve freedom from addictions. Click here.
  • October 19, 2014 – our President and CEO ran her first full marathon at the Scotia Bank Waterfront Marathon. The funds raised went to ALS Society of Canada. Charles, our French Translator with ALS, was at the finish line to congratulate Ema. Visit us in Facebook for pictures.
  • 2013 – Language marketplace pledged $5,000.00 as a Gold Sponsor for the 2013 Bombardier Plane Pull for ALS. Our Pull Time was just under 2 minutes. See the video on our YouTube page.
  • October 20, 2013 – Our President and CEO took part in the Scotia Bank Waterfront Marathon, where she ran a half marathon to raise money for the ALS Society of Canada.

Acts of Kindness

In 2013, Language Marketplace decided to add something new – a monthly “Act of Kindness” to help at the very local level! With high unemployment and so many families struggling, we wanted to help one person / family / group a month to help make a difference in their life. We also extended this to encourage all our staff to “volunteer” outside their work hours. Staff were paid by Language Marketplace for any time they “volunteered”, for up to 2 days per month.

January, one of our staff identified a local minister who spends so much time helping others in his community and never asked for anything in return. We collected boxes of non-perishable groceries and donated $200.00 in gift cards for his family to purchase fresh food.

In fall of 2013, we also collected School bags (new bags filled with the necessities) and donated them to a minister who ships them to Guatemala each fall! Here is a Thank You Letter!

We were blessed to serve dinner to community members of Our Place Community of Hope. On the menu was Portuguese BBQ chicken, roasted potatoes, vegetable Portuguese style rice, garden salad and home baked Easter bunny cookies. A team of five Language Marketplace members from head office served the meal and a couple even tried their hand at a friendly game of pool with some residents.

It was our pleasure to share our time and offer some good food to these members. “Our Place Community of Hope” promotes belonging, safety, healing and sharing for people with mental illnesses.
