Community Interpretation Training

There’s more to being an interpreter than being bilingual. Building a successful career as an interpreter starts with expert-led training that equips you with the knowledge and experience you need to thrive in the competitive language services sector.

The Language Marketplace Community Interpretation Training Program was created to help young professionals and entry-level students, who speak two languages fluently, hone their craft and achieve their career goals. The course goes beyond the basics to offer comprehensive guidance on all aspects of the profession, from the role and responsibilities of being an interpreter, addressing cultural differences,  to best practices in accounting principles, marketing tips for a freelance career.

You’ll also have the opportunity to earn while you learn. The program includes 20 hours of paid internship in the field, giving you both hands-on experience and a paycheck.

After completing and passing the final course assessment, students will receive a Community Interpretation Certificate of Completion to acknowledge their proficiency and enhance their resume.

What does the course involve?

The Community Interpretation Training Program includes:

  • 8 hours of onsite skills practicing training

  • 4 hours of online learning

  • 10 hours of unpaid internship in the field

  • 20 hours of paid internship in the field

The course also covers other various aspects of consecutive interpretation, including language proficiency, cognitive skills, cultural awareness, and note taking. Participants engage in hands-on exercises, simulations, and practical training with expert instructors.

This approach gives students a wide breadth of experience and knowledge, with opportunities to practice interpreting in different fields such as business, legal, medical, and diplomatic settings.

Instructors will also share best practices in accounting and marketing so participants can confidently set-up and run their own freelance business.

    Developing a broad vocabulary and grasp of idiomatic expressions in both languages.

  • Cognitive Skills

    Improving memory, recall, and the ability to multitask.

  • Cultural Competence

    Understanding cultural nuances and context.

  • Technical Proficiency

    Familiarity with interpretation notetaking and how to manage interactions

  • Interpretation Techniques

    Mastering how to listen, analyze, and interpret messages faithfully in the target language.

  • Ethical Considerations

    Understanding and applying the Interpreters Code of Ethics.

Assessment

Students are continually supported throughout the course with constructive feedback as they proceed through the modules. Participants are evaluated via tests, practical assessments, and their internship work.

Upon passing the final assessment, you’ll receive a Certificate of Completion to show that you’ve successfully completed the course and learned the required skills.
