Punjabi to English
Punjabi or Panjabi is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by inhabitants of the historical Punjab region (in Pakistan and north western India).
In India, Punjabi is one of the 22 languages with official status in India. It is the first official language of Punjab (India) and Union Territory State Chandigarh and the 2nd official language of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi. In Pakistan, Punjabi is the provincial language of Punjab (Pakistan) the second largest and the most populous province of Pakistan.
According to the Ethnologue estimate, there are over 90 million native speakers of the Punjabi language, which makes it approximately the 13th most widely spoken language in the world.
The Punjabi language has many different dialects, spoken in the different sub-regions of greater Punjab. The Majhi dialect is Punjabi’s prestige dialect, and is spoken in the historical region of Majha, which spans East-central districts of Pakistani Punjab and the Indian State of Punjab.
Punjabi emerged as an independent language in the 11th century from the Sauraseni Apabhramsa. The literary tradition in Punjabi started with Fariduddin Ganjshakar(1173-1266), many ancient Sufi mystics and later Guru Nanak Dev ji, the first Guru of Sikhism.
Punjabi is the fourth most spoken language in England and Wales and third most spoken in Canada.

Things to Consider
There are a wide range cultural aspects in the Punjabi speaking world that can vary quite significantly depending on the region. For example, many colors, symbols, and region-specific slang can have unintended implications. It is vital that text be adapted accordingly.
In the translation industry we use the term ‘Transcreation’ to refer to this adaptation of a text to suit the cultural understanding of a specific target audience.
It can be a challenging task for a business to expand into the Punjabi market. It’s vitally important that marketing and advertising messages are correctly adapted to this audience, while not compromising the original purpose, style, tone, and context of the message. An awareness of local cultural nuances and adapting your text accordingly is why our Punjabi translators only translate into their native tongue.
